Fantastic urban fantasy of good and unimaginable evil

Any Given Doomsday (Phoenix Chronicles, #1)Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The first time I read a story by this author in an anthology, I knew that I really liked her writing. This book is no exception. I don't want to give anything away. It's a skillful urban fantasy that left me reaching for book two in the series.

Although psychic, Liz doesn't know there are monsters in the world, and that if people are overrun by beasts, the end of the world will come. In the first book we are introduced to a friend from foster care. While waitressing (there's a well-built backround story there), Liz finds out her foster mother was murdered. She races to the foster mother's home to find a grizzly scene, and non-stop action takes her from there.

This book was so good that I read it in two sittings. I had purchased all four books in the series and am just starting book two, and it is already starting off with a bang.
