City of Whispers (Sharon Mccone Mysteries)
by Marcia Muller
This was a marvelously complex tale.
I had no idea this was a book in a series until after I had already been drawn in by this story of a gutsy PI searching for her troubled brother. As soon as I started reading, I was drawn in and the story didn't let me go until the last page. The beauty of the story is that you can enjoy it even if you haven't read the other books in the series. It did make me want to read more.
Muller wrote in sections where each character had their own voice and viewpoint. Point of view for everyone, except Shar, the main character was third person. Shar's chapters, however, were written in first person point of view. The effect was the like all the characters, but more closely identify with the main character.
Marcia Muller created a tale full of edge of your seat mystery, while creating well-rounded, truly likeable characters. The result: a story you can't put down.
