Mascara giveaway on YouTube

I'm hosting a mascara giveaway on YouTube. The following mascaras will be part of a drawing on my YouTube channel. When I reach 100 or more subscribers, I will a drawing for one of those subscribers to win the Revlon mascara. When I reach 200 or more subscribers, I will do another drawing for the L'Oreal mascara and eye liner. If someone who prefers cruelty free products wins, the NYX mascara can be substituted.

Here are a few writing contests to consider entering during the upcoming long, hot days:

5 Writing Contests

So, spring cleaning is underway and it’s time to clear the planting beds so new things can sprout and grow. Well, consider your writing something that needs to sprout and grow. Clean up and polish that work that has been sitting in a drawer and send some of your writing off to contest or two.

Some writing contests to consider

Okay, so what does the newbie writer want? To be published, right? What might just help you get an agent for a new novel? Being published. Well, contests can be a great way to get published, plus they look great on your CV. Here are a few contests that merit consideration:

Writer’s Digest Writing CompetitionDeadline May 2, 2011, entry fee $15 for first entry then $10 for additional entries. Categories:
    • Inspirational Writing (Spiritual/Religious)
    • Memoirs/Personal Essay
    • Magazine Feature Article
    • Genre Short Story (Mystery, Romance, etc.)
    • Mainstream/Literary Short Story
    • Rhyming Poetry
    • Non-rhyming Poetry
    • Stage Play
    • Television/Movie Script
    • Children's/Young Adult Fiction
Grand prize is $3000 and a meeting with an agent in New York.

The 2011 Stella Kupferberg Memorial Short Story PrizeDeadline March 1, 2011, entry fee $25, short story must address the theme, Restaurants and Bars and must be no longer than 750 words.

Grand prize $1000 and a reading on the radio

2011 Wabash Prize for FictionDeadline March 1, 2011, entry fee $15 for each entry, maximum submission length 10,000.

Grand prize $1000 and publication in the Summer/Fall 2011 issue of the Sycamore Review.

A few writing contests to keep you busy...

There are a few writing contests out there for those who aspire to write and get published:
  1. The Writer's Digest Annual Writing Competition - Deadline is May 14th, grand prize is $3,000 and a trip to New York to meet with agents and editors
  2. Boston Review Poetry Contest - Deadline is June 1st, grand prize is $1,500 and publication - click the link at left to see this and other upcoming writing contests
  3. Drue Heinz Literature Prize - entries accepted between May 1st and June 30th, prize is $15,000 and publication
  4. Pearl Poetry Prize - entries accepted between May 1st and June 30th, $1,000 and publication
  5. Glimmer Train's Very Short Fiction Contest - entries accepted between July 1st and the 31st, first place prize is $1,500 and publication

Writing Contest

Here is a writing contest that may be of interest for short story writers and poets. The deadline is January 15, 2010, which will be here before we know it. Prize is $500 for the winning story and $500 for the winning poem - not bad! Winners also get published in the Heartland Review literary journal, after which all rights return to the writer. The contest is held by the Central Coast Writers - go to the website for contest details.
